A campaign to bring honesty back to public life.

Truth Matters

# We’ve stopped expecting honesty.
# That’s the real crisis.
Not just from politicians — but from the whole system. We’ve been spun by governments.
Flooded with fake news on social media.
Fed distraction by the press.
Sold half-truths by algorithms.
And we’ve come to accept it.We shrug. We scroll. We move on.And in the meantime, our services collapse, our communities divide, and nothing changes.Truth Matters is a campaign to fight back — across the political and cultural divide. This isn’t about party politics. It’s about restoring truth as a foundation for public life.Join the call for truth

We cant recognise the Truth anymore

One lie used to shock us.
Now we’re buried in them.
Social media rewards outrage, not accuracy.
Every side accuses the other of fake news.
Conspiracies spread faster than corrections.
And people choose what to believe based on what they feel — not what’s true.
It’s not just that we’re being lied to.
It’s that we can’t agree on what’s real anymore.
And if we can’t agree on that,

HOW DO WE FIX ANYTHING?

This is the Cost of the Broken Truth

  • Patients waiting hours in pain, or treated in corridors. In 2023, more than 1 in 10 emergency patients in England waited over 12 hours.

  • Veterans sleeping rough — nearly 1 in 10 rough sleepers in England are former service personnel.

  • 4.3 million children in the UK are growing up in poverty — but debates online argue whether the problem is even real.

  • Schools are overwhelmed. Over half of parents of children with SEND say they’ve had to fight for basic support.

  • Use of food banks has more than doubled since 2017, yet millions are told poverty is a personal failure.

  • A country more divided, more uncertain, and more angry — because the truth keeps getting buried.

Britain isn’t broken because of one party, one government, or one moment. It’s broken because we stopped demanding honesty — and they got away with it.

This is what happens when truth breaks down.It doesn’t matter where you stand politically —
Without truth, we all lose.

The Mission: What We're Asking For

We don’t care who you vote for.
But we all deserve to know the truth.
That’s why Truth Matters UK is calling for three essential reforms — without which, every other battle is built on lies, confusion, and division.🟦 1. Media Reform
Because a free press shouldn’t mean a billionaire press.
We demand:
- Limits on media ownership concentration — no more monopolies
- Stronger public funding for independent, local, and investigative journalism
- Transparent labeling of AI-generated content and sponsored narratives
- A regulator with real teeth to enforce truth, fairness, and accountability in news
---🟥 2. Political Reform
Because politicians should fear lying more than losing.
We demand:
- Independent truth oversight for public office
- New powers to investigate and expose dishonest claims in campaigns or Parliament
- Truth-in-advertising rules applied to political communication
- A public right to accurate information — not just a right to vote
---🟨 3. Education Reform
Because the next generation deserves better tools.
We demand:
- Critical thinking and media literacy taught in every UK school
- Curriculum reform to cover misinformation, unconscious bias, and digital manipulation
- A national investment in public education campaigns that help adults spot fake news too
---Bottom LineUntil we can agree on what’s true, we’ll never fix what’s broken.

Protecting Free Speech

We believe in free speech — even when we disagree. But free speech only works when we all have the same basic facts. This campaign isn’t about stopping opinions.
It’s about calling out lies, especially when they come from people in power.
---Everyone has the right to an opinion. You can believe:
- That lower taxes help the economy
- That climate change needs urgent action
But no one should be misled by claims like:
- “Cutting taxes always increases government income”
- “There’s no evidence climate change is real”
Those aren’t opinions — they’re false facts.
And they can shape elections, policies, and public trust.
---Truth isn’t the enemy of free speech. It’s the foundation.Free speech includes:
- Debate
- Strong views
- Satire and criticism
But it also means protecting the public from lies being passed off as truth — especially during elections or major events. We don’t all have to agree. But we do have to start with what’s real.

Fair and Independent Oversight

We don’t want the government or any political party controlling what’s true.We want a fair, honest way to challenge public lies — especially when they come from people in power. This campaign supports the idea of an independent group to help protect the truth in public life.
It wouldn’t judge opinions — only clear, false claims that mislead people.
---How to Keep It FairWe believe any group checking public claims must:- Include a mix of people
Judges, researchers, charities, and people from different political views — not just the government.
- Be open and transparent
The rules for choosing who’s involved should be clear and public.
- Only focus on facts
It should look at what’s said in public, like government statements or campaign promises — not personal views.
- Check how information is shared
It should look at how facts are checked, not just the final result.
- Allow people to appeal
Anyone affected should be able to question a decision.
- Be reviewed regularly
It should be checked to make sure it stays fair — and closed if it isn’t working.
---What Do We Mean by Misinformation? We’re not talking about opinions we don’t like. We’re talking about:> False or misleading claims that are said as if they’re true — and that confuse or harm people.---What We Support- Clear rules for checking facts
Based on good journalism — and open to the public.
- Independent fact-checkers
Groups that are open about how they work, who funds them, and aren’t linked to political parties.
- Right to reply
If something you said is flagged as false, you should have the chance to explain or correct it.
- Protecting opinion and satire
People should still be free to joke, criticise, or hold strong views.
- Fair rules for social media
Platforms should reduce the spread of proven false claims — but not silence unpopular opinions.
- Teaching media skills
Long-term, we want people to feel confident spotting truth from spin for themselves.

We can change this

- Politicians lie, and face no consequences.
- Fake news spreads faster than facts.
- And people have stopped expecting honesty at all
That’s not just frustrating - It’s dangerous.Truth Matters is a movement to fight back — not with tribal politics, but with public pressure and collective power. We want:
- Real consequences for political lies
Loss of the whip, forced resignations, transparency.
- Accountability for viral misinformation
From campaigns, media, and social platforms.
This affects everyone — left, right, and centre.
If we don’t fix this first, we’ll never fix anything else.
**We’re building a movement to defend truth and rebuild trust.
